San Diego

Our last stop in San Diego today before heading home was to see the USS Midway. Fascinating!! We have tremendous respect and awe for those who serve in our military branches. It was eye-opening and moving to view the ship and obtain a better understanding of what was required of personnel on the Midway. One fact that surprised me also sparked amazement: there are more in the world qualified to perform brain surgery than qualified to act as an LSO (Landing Signal Operator)--this is the one who directs the pilots who are landing on the carrier.

Our first day in San Diego was spent in Old Town. One of our first stops was "Toby's Candles, Soap and Apothecary Shop" Of course we went in because of the name "Toby's" on the sign, but what we found inside was a delight! If you're ever in San Diego, please stop by this shop and greet Kellee. She is the owner of the shop and when she found out that we are missionaries serving in Uganda, immediately offered to allow the kids to dip their own animal-shaped candles in colored wax. After they were done, my mom tried to purchase another item and Kellee wouldn't let her. She said she wanted to bless us because she appreciated our service as missionaries and wanted to be able to give to us.

happy anniversary to us!

Today is our 13th wedding anniversary! And for the second year in a row--I FORGOT!!! The assumption that it's the man who usually forgets the anniversary doesn't play out for us!! Don't know what's up with me!! We are blessed and thankful and looking forward to many more years!!!!
We are traveling as a family to San Diego for a couple of days. "See" ya when we return.
